Things looked dismal early in Monday’s varsity match against Millbury. The Woolies’ Kelsie Cummings scored unassisted with less than seven minutes in. 13 minutes later, Cummings passed to McKenna Kennedy who set up Alex Pariseau for Millbury’s second of the night. Auburn hung tough, and things would move in their favor shortly.

At 15:48, Jianna Baroni scored in a solo attempt. With 6:51 left in the first, Baroni scored again with an assist by Colleen Cutting. Both are freshmen. With the game tied at 2-2, the Rockets really stepped up their game. They certainly earned another notch on the toughness scale against the 4-0 Woolies.

With 11:13 left in the second, Millbury broke the tie when Alex Pariseau lofted a ball over the stretched arms of goalie Sarah Fahey. Sarah’s height leaves her vulnerable for these types of shots, and there were two on the night. Otherwise, Auburn did a good job of protecting their net although they were looking exhausted by the end.

This game leaves the Rockets with an overall record of 1-1-1 and a SWCL record of 0-1-1. There are plenty of games left, and these girls still have the potential to move forward. They refused to give up when the points were against them, and more experience will certainly improve their game.
