‘School House Rock Live’ at Riley-Pappas Pavilion

Auburn Community Players’ Teen Theater Workshop presents ‘School House Rock Live’ Thursday, July 31 and Friday August 1 at 6pm at the Riley-Pappas Pavilion at Pappas Recreation Complex.  The 14 cast members and 10 staff ad crew have been rehearsing for over three weeks preparing for the musical based on the popular 1970s cartoon series.

Most of the performers are Auburn students, although several come from surrounding communities.  Nicole O’Connell of Worcester and Julie Ann Ginsburg of Webster have worked with Executive Director, Christine Taylor, at Stageloft Repertory Theater in Sturbridge.

The other cast members are likely to be familiar faces to anyone who has followed Auburn performing arts.  All are experienced performers, and nearly all have worked with Auburn Community Players in the past.

‘School House Rock Live’ is a musical reprisal of the classic 1970s cartoon shorts.  Most of us between 35 and 50 will remember these clips that aired in between our favorites on Saturday mornings.  Conjunction Junction is certain to get you clapping and singing along (or at least humming if, like me, the actual words escape you 30 years later).  There’s the always entertaining Just a Bill, that chronicles a forlorn piece of doomed legislation.  And who can forget Interplanet Janet (portrayed by Maddie Poshkus)?

The performers, ranging in age from 13 to 16, take us through these and more, 17 numbers in all.  In addition to learning lines, music and choreography, the cast and crew also designed and created all the sets that will be used.

Both shows are free, and seating should not be an issue, though the Auburn Community Players wouldn’t mind if that was a problem.  Plan now to come watch these talented youngsters Thursday and Friday night.
