United Soccer Announces Scholarship Recipients

United Soccer of Auburn announced its 2014 scholarship recipients.  The winners are Julie Mulcahy, Elise Cavanaugh, Alekxis Rojee and Alison Nikula.

Alison Nikula, who plans to attend Westfield State University has played soccer for USA since she was six years old.  In her entry, Nikula talked about the lifelong friends she has made through playing Auburn Soccer.

Elise Cavanaugh has played Auburn Soccer since she was barely 5.  She wrote about her opportunity to work with the TOPS program run by USA, which is a soccer-based program for children with special needs.  Cavanaugh serves as a “buddy coach”, and is paired with one of the TOPS players for the season.  Elise plans to major in English and become a secondary school teacher.

Julie Mulcahy plans to attend Westfield State University and to study movement science and exercise science.  Julie praised her coaches and teammates to whom she refers as “a family who is always supporting me.”

United Soccer awards four $500 scholarships annually to graduating seniors who have also participated in United Soccer of Auburn.  Candidates submit an essay, which is reviewed by the USA Board of Directors to select the winners.
