Board of Selectmen Reorganizes

Doreen Goodrich retained her seat as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen by a 4-1 vote last night with Selectman Steve Simonian casting the dissenting vote. Ken Holstrom was unanimously elected as the vice-chairman.

In public comments, resident Robert Platukis urged the board to consider using the beach at the Century Sportsman’s Club for swimming lessons. He considers swimming a life skill that the community should support.

The board voted to accept the street layout for an unaccepted portion of West View St. DPW Director Bill Coyle will sponsor an article at the next town meeting to get acceptance as a town road.

To conduct a recount of the recent Selectman’s election, Town Clerk Ellen Gaboury requested the board appoint 2 temporary Registrars. Dan Carpenter can no longer serve in this capacity since his election as a Selectman, and Joseph Martin was appointed. Registrar Deborah Nurse is travelling out of the country, and Brent Anderson was appointed to fill her spot. The recount was requested by Michael Robidoux who came in third in the election.

The Board of Health and the Solid Waste Advisory Committee announced the arrival of new Compost Bins and Kitchen Scrap Collection Buckets that can be purchased from the Public Health Division at town hall. Recycling Coordinator Amy Sullivan said the outdoor compost bins can be purchased for $55.00. The big box stores sell them for about $100.00.
