Vincent F. Connolly, 87, of Auburn, MA died on Friday, May 23, 2014 surrounded by family at Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence. Vincent was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Worcester, MA to Paul and Georgiana Connolly.
Vincent was married to Janet (Hirtle) Connolly for 51 years prior to her death in 2006. He is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Jill of Watertown, MA; Steven and Christine of Glastonbury, CT; David and Lori of Leicester, MA; Patrick and Julie of Foster City, CA and 8 grandchildren, as well as his brother Edward of Shrewsbury and many nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his siblings Rita, Paul, and Irene and his beloved cat Pebbles.
Vincent was class president at Sacred Heart Academy. After returning from service in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Vincent received an undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross, Masters in Education from University of Vermont, and pursued a doctorate at Clark University.
He began his teaching career at Auburn High School, Holliston High School, and Burncoat Jr. High and went on to teach Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Worcester State University. He retired as Professor Emeritus after teaching for 45 years at WPI where he was also honored by induction into the Fraternity of the Skull.
Vincent was a faithful member of North American Martyrs Parish of Auburn and of the Catholic Alumni Sodality.
His humble nature and sense of humor endeared him to all with whom he came in contact.
Calling hours for Vincent will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Thursday, May 29, 2014 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in North American Martyr’s Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
