Fire at Recycling Plant Causes Minor Damage

by | May 13, 2014

At about 8:15pm Tueday night, the AFRD received a call at 15 Hardscrabble Rd., the MRF Recycling Plant for a reported fire in the building.
Engine 3 arrived with smoke coming from the building and approximately 50 employees had been evacuated. The fire was burning in a trash compactor and filled the approximately 30,000 sq. ft. building with smoke. The fire was kept contained to the large compactor and crews had the fire under control in about a half hour.
Because of the size of the building, the Sutton Fire Department was called to the scene with the Fire District’s Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) to clear the building of smoke. The MVU flowed air at 180 mph and was pushing 1,800 CFM of air flow. The Oxford and Leicester Fire Departments covered Auburn stations while AFRD fought the fire. Fire companies cleared the scene at 9:55 pm
