Stanley T. Mendys, of Auburn, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in the comfort of Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home, Fairhaven, just two months shy of his 100th birthday. He first lived with his daughter, Carol, in Fairhaven, prior to spending several months in the care of Our Lady’s Haven, where he passed peacefully.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Tessie S. (Leszczynski) Mendys, in 2017; their daughter, Patricia M. Goodhall, in 2011; and their grandson, Jeffrey Plotczyk, in 2021.

Stanley leaves his devoted daughter, Carol Plotczyk, of Fairhaven, formerly of Grafton; his grandchildren, Andrew Plotczyk, Eric Goodhall and his wife Donna, and Maura Wolfe and her husband Thomas; his great-grandchildren, John, Tessa, and Victoria; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, John, William, Peter, Joseph, Frank, Amelia, and Helen; and their parents, John and Aniela (Sitko) Mendys.

Born, raised, and educated in Worcester, Stanley attended Commerce High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought proudly for his country and was honorably discharged in 1945, receiving a Purple Heart Medal. He and Tessie married in 1947, and settled in Auburn to raise their family. They were both faithful parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church in Auburn for many years.

Stanley began his career as a weaver at the MKM Knitting Mills in Rochdale, where he dedicated over 20 years, and then worked as a letter carrier for the USPS in Worcester. He retired in 1986, after 20 years of service.

In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, and visiting the casino with Tessie and Carol.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Mendys family between 9:30 and 10:30 on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, with a funeral Mass to follow at 11 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street N, Auburn. Committal prayers and military honors will be rendered at Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester.
