Paul R. Almstrom, 72, beloved husband of Deborah (Tomlinson) Almstrom, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 22, 2021, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family. Born in Worcester on March 15, 1949 and raised in Auburn, Paul was a son of the late Chester and Marion (Clave) Almstrom.
After graduating from Auburn High School in 1967, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Allagash (AO-97). He later went on to serve in the United States Naval Reserves until 1973. During his long career as a Police Officer with the Town of Auburn, he attended Anna Maria College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He served the Auburn community for 27 years before his retirement in December, 2002. Paul later worked for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Civil Division, for five years. He was a lifetime member of the Auburn Lodge of Elks, #2118 and was a Past Commander of American Legion Post #443 in Cherry Valley.
He loved spending time with his grand-dog, Jake, beer-o-clock with his Legion and Elk brothers and time spent boating and fishing. Paul always looked forward to heading north to his condo at Hampton Beach during the summer months, then heading south in the winter to meet up with old friends in Boynton Beach, FL.
Paul will be lovingly missed and remembered by his best friend and wife of 33 years, Debbie; his son, Patrick J. Almstrom, of Leicester; his daughter, Paige M. Almstrom, of Auburn; his two brothers, Roger W. Almstrom and Gary L. Almstrom and his wife, Pam, all of Auburn; his lifelong friend, Charlie Bromage, of Spencer; several nieces and nephews; many law enforcement colleagues; countless friends; and of course, his grand-dog and faithful companion, Jake. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Maryann (Verdolino) Almstrom.
Paul was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
