The Massachusetts Elks Lodges are having a Motorcycle Run Fundraiser, Sunday, September 26, 2021 to raise money for one of our state projects, “Massachusetts Elks Veterans Fund.”
Each year Elks Lodges throughout the state have fundraisers to raise money for hospitalized veterans. Across our Commonwealth and country, in hundreds of veteran’s homes and hospitals, tens of thousands of war veterans would live shut away lives, forgotten by their country and countrymen, were it not for such groups as the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The Elks moto: “So long as there are Veterans, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.”
In 2016, the Elks’ contributions to the nation’s heroes provided more than $32 million to more than 300 Veterans Administration Medical Centers, clinics, and state care facilities. The Elks have
entered into a partnership with the VHA to support efforts to rescue homeless Veterans in their communities. To this end, the Elks, nationwide, have pledged $4 million dollars to help end Veterans Homelessness. Another issue the National Elks have been involved with is the Pearl Harbor Restoration Fund to repair and upgrade Pearl Harbor National Memorial and USS Arizona Memorial.
Transitioning from military life back to civilian life is a challenge that all veterans face. Unfortunately, few are provided the adequate tools and resources to meet this challenge. This results in an alarmingly high number of cases of depression, substance abuse, and suicide and we are here to help them because they helped us by keeping us free. WWII veterans are dying at the rate of approximately 492 a day, according to US Veterans Administration figures. Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Afghanistan, Iraq, and all veterans deserve the best assistance available and the Elks will
never forget them.
The Elks is seeking cash or gift donations for drawings after the Motorcycle Run. Please make check payable to: Massachusetts Elks Association. Send donation to: Veteran’s Run, c/o Auburn Elks, Ed McDonald, PO Box 306, Auburn, MA 01501-1319.
