One year after the Covid pandameic put youth sports on thin ice, the Auburn High School girls returned to the pitch Tuesday afternoon with all systems go. All of the previous rules modifications, including masks during play, are no longer in effect, at tleast for the time being.
The Auburn girls took full advantage, with senior Emma Johnson tallying two scores and senior captain Karina Sargent contrbuting two assists. Senior Mackenzie Keeney also scored, with Zoe Sandberg adding the fourth tally late in the second half to put the game out of reach. Overall, the opening game of the 2021 campaign was a success, with AHS securing the 4-0 win.
While some rust was evident early, Auburn settled in and controlled the field nicely. Defensively, the Rockets allowed virtually nothing in their third, stopping every Bartlett rush before it could get started.
The girls are next scheduled to play on Wednesday Sept. 8 at Westboro.
