The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be continuing paving operations along I-290 westbound. The work will require intermittent temporary lane closures and on and off-ramp closures during overnight hours from Wednesday, July 21 through Friday, July 23, from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. the following morning. Only one ramp at a time will be closed during the paving operations.
The paving operations will require detours as follows:
When the I-290 westbound Exit 18 (Lincoln Street) off-ramp is closed, traffic will be directed to follow the detour signage in place and use Exit 16 (East Central Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) to access Lincoln Street (Route 70).
When the I-290 westbound Exit 16 (East Central Street) off-ramp is closed, traffic will be directed to use Exit 14 (Grafton Street – Route 122) then follow Grafton Street and Summer Street to access East Central Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
When the I-290 westbound Exit 16 (East Central Street) on-ramp is closed, traffic will be directed to use I-290 westbound to Exit 14 (Grafton Street – Route 122) to I-290 eastbound.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
