The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be implementing intermittent temporary overnight on-ramp and off-ramp closures along the Interstate 290 eastbound and westbound corridor between exit 19 (I-190 northbound) and exit 21 (Plantation Street) in Worcester. The closures are scheduled to take place tonight, Tuesday, July 6, and on Thursday, July 8, during overnight hours from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following morning. The closures are needed to allow crews to safely and efficiently conduct paving operations.
Traffic will be directed to follow the signed detour signage in place during the scheduled closures. Only one ramp at a time will be closed during the paving operations.
Closures and detours will be as follows:
Traffic will be detoured to exit 22 when the I-290 westbound exit 21 (Plantation Street) on-ramp is closed.
Traffic will be detoured to exit 16 when the I-290 westbound exit 20 (Lincoln Street) off-ramp is closed.
Traffic will be detoured onto I-290 eastbound to access I-290 westbound when the Burncoat Street on-ramp to I-290 westbound is closed.
Traffic will be directed to continue on I-290 westbound and use exit 18 when the I-290 westbound exit 19 connector ramp to I-190 northbound is closed.
Traffic will be directed to continue on I-290 eastbound to exit 21, reverse back onto 290 westbound to take I-190 northbound, when the I-290 eastbound exit 19 connector ramp to I-190 northbound is closed.
Message boards, signs, traffic control devices, and law enforcement details will be used to guide drivers safely through the work zone.
