Harold J. Standring, Jr., 87, of Rocky Hill, CT, formerly of West Yarmouth and Auburn, MA, died Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

He is survived by his three children, John Standring and his wife Melissa of Pound Ridge, NY, Susan Wagner and her husband Carl of Wethersfield, CT, and Jay Standring of Washington, DC., and three adored granddaughters Alexandra, Taylor, and Alison.

Harold is also survived by seven brothers, Thomas Standring of Leicester, MA, David Standring of West Yarmouth, MA, William Standring of Auburn, MA, Alan Standring of Charlton, MA, Terrance Standring of Phoenix, AZ, Neil Standring of Spencer, MA, Glenn Standring of Charlton, MA, and a sister, Faith Fritze of Altamonte Springs, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Judith Standring (Smith), and two brothers Ronald Standring and Paul Standring.

Harold was born in Worcester and was a long-time resident of Auburn, MA. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1953, where he was a star athlete, and later inducted into the Auburn High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956. Harold then earned a degree in Agriculture from University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge.

A long-time landscaper and florist, he owned and operated Glen Echo Gardens in Auburn for 40 years. He also worked at the Job Corps in Grafton, MA, where he mentored local youth in landscaping and job skills. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening, skiing trips with his family, as well as summer vacations in Maine and Cape Cod.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (https://support.nmcrs.org/a/homepage ) or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org/donate/ ).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Hal’s family on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 4 – 7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn, MA. A private burial service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
