Overnight Closure of the On-Ramp and Off-Ramp on I-290 Westbound at Exit 21, Exit 20 and Exit 19

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be implementing temporary overnight closures of the on and off-ramps along the I-290 westbound corridor in Worcester to allow paving operations to take place. The ramp closures are scheduled for overnight Thursday, June 17. The schedule is listed below.

Closures and detours are as follows:

  • The I-290 westbound at exit 21 (Plantation Street) on-ramp will be closed from Thursday, June 17 at 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18. During the work, traffic will be directed to use exit 22.
  • The I-290 westbound at exit 20 (Lincoln Street) off-ramp will be closed from Thursday, June 17 at 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18. During the work, traffic will be directed to use exit 16.
  • The I-290 westbound at exit 19 (290 westbound to 190 northbound) Connector Ramp will be closed from Thursday, June 17 at 11:59 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18. During the work, traffic will be directed to take exit 18 to access I-290 eastbound back to I-190 northbound.
  • The I-290 westbound at exit 20 (Lincoln Street/Burncoat Street) on-ramp will be closed from Thursday, June 17 at 11:59 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18. During the work, traffic will be directed to use I-290 eastbound to reverse direction.

Message boards, signs, traffic control devices, and law enforcement details will be used to guide drivers safely through the work zone.

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
