The Auburn boys varsity hockey team had 2 losses in the Dana Willard Christmas Tournament last week. On Wednesday, Hudson High School beat the Rockets 3-1 which put them in Saturday’s consolation game where they faced East Longmeadow. Although the visiting Spartans would prevail 6-5 it was a well-fought fight.
East Longmeadow scored twice in the first period that ended 2-0. Auburn came out strong in the second as Branden Disilveira scored just 13 seconds in. Adam Clark and Steve Cariglio followed and the Rockets were up 3-2 at 4:51.
In less than three minutes, East Longmeadow put in 4 pucks and took a 6-3 lead going into the third period. Cariglio would score twice in the third and earned a hat trick.
Cariglio’s second goal occurred at 8:36 when the Rockets had a 2-man advantage due to back-to-back Spartan penalties. With less than a minute left, the Rockets pulled their goalie and Cariglio scored his third. With 9 seconds on the clock, a Spartan hit the puck down the ice, and Auburn was out of time.
Auburn assists were Cameron Lanier, Alex Morrow, and Paul O’Leary with 2 apiece, and Josh Crombie, Ryan Mulcahy, and Adam Clark with one each.
The boys are home on Thursday when they meet Hudson again at 3PM.
