BOSTON -The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that the installation of new milepost-based signs for exits on Route 6 on Cape Cod and Interstate 90 westbound continues the week of Sunday, December 20, and occurs during overnight hours each night, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
MassDOT’s Statewide Exit Renumbering Project is converting all exit numbers on roadways, per Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements. Previous to this project, interstates and major roadways in Massachusetts have always utilized a sequential exit numbering method.
New exit sign installations began along I-90 westbound on Sunday, December 13. Crews began in Weston and are working westbound to the border with New York. Then crews will work on I-90 eastbound from the New York border to Boston. The remaining exit conversion on I-90 westbound between Boston/Logan Airport and Weston will be completed after the eastbound side of I-90. Exit conversion will take approximately 2 weeks to complete in each direction. Work is scheduled to take place during overnight hours, beginning at 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. the next morning.
Meanwhile, the installation of new exit signs on Route 6 on Cape Cod will continue. This corridor work began on Monday, December 14, with crews starting in Bourne and proceeding eastward to Orleans. After eastbound installations are complete, crews will work on Route 6 westbound. Work will typically be completed during the overnight hours of 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next day.
All work is weather dependent and construction dates may be adjusted as conditions warrant.
