Ashraf Elkerm, M.D., was recently named the new medical director and on-site physician at Life Care Center of Auburn.
In this role, Elkerm will base his operations within the skilled nursing facility. He will see patients there and coordinate patient care among attending physicians. He has been serving in the same role at Life Care Center of Leominster and The Highlands in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, since 2013.
“I have been admitting my patients to Life Care centers since 2007,” Elkerm shared. “I have been happy working as a physician on site with them.”
Elkerm earned his doctor of medicine degree from Alexandria University in Egypt, in 1982. He completed his residency in general surgery from Alexandria University Hospitals in 1987, and he is board certified in internal medicine. He has experience in emergency room medicine and has published research on myocardial ischemia. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and has won several awards for teaching.
Elkerm and his wife, Eyman Barrada, have two daughters.
