‘Button Project’ comes to fruition in Auburn Schools

by | Sep 10, 2020

In July 2020, Mrs. Michele Fuller shared her hopes of making the Button Project a reality for the Auburn Public Schools, sharing her sentiment, “a smiling teacher is so necessary to feel safe!”

Superintendent, Dr. Casey Handfield immediately lent his support and without hesitation our community quickly came together to make Michelle’s vision a reality.

Jessica Hughes Photography quickly offered her help, and within hours the project was fully funded by generous donations.

However, without the behind the scene work of countless individuals securing almost 400 photos of each Auburn Public School and Here We Grow Staff members, the project would have never been possible.

While Michelle Fuller succumbed to her battle with cancer on August 8, her vision has become a reality. When our students return to school this September, their teacher’s smile may be disguised by a mask. But they will undoubtedly find comfort in seeing their smile on a button.
