Janet M. (Thomas) LaPrad, 81, of Warren and formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020 with her loving family by her side at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester.

Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Janet was one of twelve children born to the late Frank and Irma (Batchelder) Thomas. She attended the Auburn schools, prior to meeting her beloved Martin J. LaPrad. They were married in 1957 and settled in their hometown of Auburn to raise their family. Later on, Janet began working as a cook for the lunch program at Pakachoag School and would do so for seventeen years – she loved providing hot meals to Auburn’s schoolchildren.

Janet was a true creative and always found comfort in the arts: she loved painting with oils and watercolors, drawing and sketching with ink, sewing, cooking, knitting, and rug hooking. Janet was often inspired by the beauty of nature, also enjoying gardening and pressing flowers. She loved all animals and was a friend to any creature she might find.

Along with her husband, Martin, Janet leaves her children: Mark T. LaPrad and his wife Cathy, of East Brookfield; Peter M. LaPrad and his wife Donna, of Auburn; Theresa M. DiLeo and her husband Steven, of Sterling; and Thomas P. LaPrad, of Warren; her grandchildren: Kerry Russell, Kristen Breen, Mark LaPrad, Nicole Vecchio, Michelle Wagaman, and Kaitlyn LaPrad; her great-grandchildren: Leah, Kelsey, Liam, Grace, Andrew, Olivia, Jonathan, and Braeden; her siblings: Carlton Thomas of Oxford; Helen Soponski of Auburn; Edith Garneau of Auburn; and Frank Thomas of East Brookfield; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by seven siblings: Olive Austin, Everett Thomas, Robert Thomas, Alice Romek, Gilbert Thomas, Joyce Thomas, and Warren Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.

Services will be held privately for Janet’s family and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. The BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
