Wednesday, December 18, 2013 9:38 AM Auburn Police and Auburn Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call from the resident of 204 Auburn Street (Auburn) reporting a head-on crash involving a car and a WRTA bus.

MVA Auburn St. 12-18-13 pic 3Monica B Vickers (age 22) of Worcester was operating a 1997 Lexus sedan heading down (east) on Auburn Street. Vickers lost control of her vehicle in the snow and slush, crossed into the on-coming lane and struck the bus head-on.

The outbound WRTA bus operated by Darlene A. McDonald (age 47) was traveling up (west) on Auburn Street with only two passengers. After the collision the bus came to rest nearly striking a large tree in a snowbank in front of 204 Auburn Street. The Lexus traveled several more feet on the wrong side of the road before striking a snowbank near the Auburn Package Store.

Both the bus driver and operator of the Lexus were transported to the hospital by the Auburn Fire Department to be evaluated. The injuries appeared to be minor. Neither of the two passengers were injured. The Auburn Police closed that section of Auburn Street and diverted traffic for approximately one hour until the vehicles could be removed.

The crash is under investigation by Officer Luis Santos. Assisting at the scene were Officers Brian Kennedy, Justin Starkus, Jason Miglionico, James Ljunggren and Sergeant Todd Lemon.
