Overnight Paving Operations on I-190 Northbound and Southbound

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be conducting overnight paving operations for several nights on Interstate 190 northbound and southbound in Sterling. The work is scheduled to begin on Sunday evening, July 19, and will continue in the overnight hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Each night’s work starts at 7:00 p.m. and concludes by 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

The work will require intermittent lane closures on I-190 northbound and southbound and on-ramp and off-ramp closures at exit 5 (Route 140) and exit 6 (Route 12 Sterling/Clinton). Both exits will not be impacted at the same time.

The following detours will place during paving operations:

· When paving operations are underway at the exit 5 ramps, traffic looking to exit and enter I-190 northbound at exit 5 will be directed to utilize exit 6. Traffic looking to exit and enter I-190 southbound at exit 5 will be directed to utilize exit 4.

· When paving operations are underway at the exit 6 ramps, traffic looking to exit and enter I-190 northbound at exit 6 will be directed to utilize exit 7. Traffic looking to exit and enter I-190 southbound at exit 6 will be directed to utilize exit 5.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.
