Unofficial Town Election Results; Carpenter, Sluckis take Selectboard seats

by | May 20, 2020

In the only contested race of 2020, incumbent Selectman Daniel Carpenter and Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis, Jr. were the top two candidates for Board of Selectmen. Perennial contender Waye Page followed Sluckis by about 80 votes. Page did retain his seat on the Auburn Housing Authority, a position for which he was unopposed.

There will be some decisions to be made in the near future, as Auburn’s Town Charter states that a town employee cannot hold a position on the Board of Selectman. Chief Sluckis, who suggested he had been mulling retirement, told reporters he “had some thinking to do” about the position. Board of Selectmen Chair, Ken Holstrom, resigned on May 1 as he has moved to the Cape and is no longer going to be an Auburn resident. The BOS can operate as a 3 person board until next election, or there could be a special election, but that is an expensive proposition for the town.
