Governor orders schools closed until May 4

Governor Charlie Baker ordered all Massachusetts schools and non-emergency day care centers to remain closed through at least May 4 due to the coronavirus outbreak. Baker had previously ordered schools closed until April 6. 

The announcement comes as Massachusetts reported 679 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 1,838. There were four additional coronavirus – related deaths reported Wednesday, bringing the total to 15 statewide. Nearly 20,000 people in Massachusetts have now been tested, per state health officials.
