On Thursday, November 27, Roberta Briggs was presented with the 2019 Riley Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award at the annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service held at First Congregational Church.

Briggs received commendations from the Town of Auburn, State Senator, Michael Moore, and State Representative Paul Frost.

The John E. & Ethel E. Riley Outstanding Citizenship Award was created in 1976 to honor the Rileys for their contribution to serving and improving the lives of Auburn Citizens. John Riley served as the Town Clerk from 1922 to 1952 and Ethel served as an Assistant for many years. There was a collection taken up in town upon Mr. Riley’s retirement to fund the award. The endowment is now held by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation. The interest earned each year is given to the recipient of the Riley Award.
