Special to Auburn Mass Daily
The future looks bright for these young athletes who finally found the right dynamic to put together a championship team.
“We play as a family. We take care of each other” said Coach Corey Handfield as he has created a team of brothers.
Game #1 of the 5 game series to the State Championship was played on Wednesday night in East Bridgewater. Auburn came back from a 11-1 deficit and won in the seventh inning 14-13 with four of their players, Tyler Cook, Aidan Bond, Isaac Swedberg and Sam Soloperto, hitting out of the park home runs. Pitcher, Lorenzo Santos- Diaz, was able to hold East Bridgewater in the seventh inning and outfielder, Danny Handfield, made a diving catch to end the game!
“It took all 12 kids in the dugout to win last nights’ game” Handfield said. Adding, ‘They very easily could have folded when they went down early. They never gave up. They tightened up the defense and showed patience at the plate. You could feel the momentum swing our way in the 5th inning.” Coach Handfield proudly stated.
Auburn’s coaching staff and kids demonstrated that they have the talent, perseverance and leadership to go all the way.
With an amazing athletic performance in Game #1 on the road to the State Championship and 5 more years of playing baseball together, we can expect to hang more championship banners for the Town of Auburn.
Come join in the action and excitement by supporting the Intermediate All-Star Baseball Team at Game #2 and #3 of the series.
