The Lion King – Slideshow #1

by | Jun 3, 2019

Auburn Middle School presented The Lion King, Jr. two weeks ago, and it was a big hit. After opening night, Production Assistant Sara Poshkus told Auburn Mass Daily, “It was the most full house that I have ever seen/managed there!” Saturday night was also packed.

It is unfortunate that school productions only run for a few nights because this musical deserved a second viewing. The show was well paced and entertaining from beginning to end, and it involved a huge number of middle school students. Over 70 had acting, singing or dancing rolls, and another 20 or so had support positions. 50 or more students also helped manufacture the props and many costume parts under the guidance of art teacher Michele Prunier.

Typical of an AMS musical, a core of dedicated dance students serves as the backbone for the dance numbers, and choreographer Libby Stearns certainly benefited. So did the show.

The stampeding wildebeest scene was somewhat typical of the chaos managed by director Christine Taylor, assistant Jared Kahn, and musical director Julianna Duchesneau, and they did it well.

Participants should have received a coupon code by now for 25% off any order. This will be valid through the month of July. The first slideshow was taken during “tech week” and includes the dress rehearsal. A second slideshow of the Friday performance will be posted in a few days.
