For the fifth consecutive year, Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island participated in the John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program. The Make-A-Wish team consisted of four runners, including Bill Murphy of Auburn, Massachusetts, who raised over $11,150. The funds raised will go toward the organization’s goal of funding more than 430 wishes this year for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Murphy is a branch manager at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation in Auburn. Motivated by his cousin’s Make-A-Wish
experience, over the past 12 years Bill has raised more than $166,000 to help grant wishes, through fundraising events and a monthly donation from the proceeds of all loans he closes.
Bill loves coaching his kids’ sports teams, cheering for them, and spending time with his wife, Dianne, at Narragansett Beach. He likes to stay active and in addition to being an avid runner, practices martial arts.
“My goal is to help raise money while building awareness that a wish granted to a child in need brings happiness, hope and memories to last each child and their families a lifetime.” said Murphy.
