Rockets Softball Earns Second Win

by | Apr 19, 2019

Auburn High softball is only 3 games in to an 18 game season, and it’s nice to be on the positive end at 2-1. On Wednesday and under perfect conditions, the Rockets took on St. Peter-Marian, and they came out victorious, 8-5.

Although the game ended up at Memorial Field, Auburn was listed as the visitor, and that carried through. In the first inning, the Rockets scored twice to take an early lead, but Guardian Emily Smith answered in the bottom half with a 3-run home run.

The bats of Corrie Hammond, Makena Mulcahy and Emily Wambach made the offensive difference for Auburn as 5 runs were picked up in the fifth and another was added in the fourth. The Guardians made a good push in the sixth, but their 2 runs weren’t enough to impact the game.

Ava Novakoski had the mound for 6 innings, and Jaycie Opuda closed out the game. After the game, Jaycie was the recipient of a clever prom proposal which she accepted.
