The tenth annual Auburn Youth and Family Services Dancing with the Stars will take place on Saturday, January 26 at the Auburn Mall. The snow date is February 2. Tickets are on sale now for $25, and can be purchased at www.ayfs.org or at the AYFS office, 21 Pheasant Ct., Auburn.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating 10 Years”. Since its inception in 2010, held at the Sally McDermott Dance Studio on Washington St., the fundraiser has moved twice into larger venues, first to MotorSports International on Rt. 20, then last year to the Auburn Mall. Dancing with the Stars has raised nearly $200,000 for AYFS in its 10 year run.
Modeled after the popular television show, AYFS Dancing with the Stars paired local “celebrities” – teachers, firefighters, police officers, coaches, elected officials and business leaders – with professional dance instructors from Sally McDermott and several other local studios. The couples would choreograph and perform a routine based on each year’s theme.
Retired teacher Joe Hurley has brought his inimitable wit and humor to every performance, and will be the host this year, as well.
This year’s show will be more cabaret-style; there won’t be judges or awards given out.
Social hour will begin at 6:30pm with performances to follow. This 10th year celebration will also feature food, raffles, alive auction and entertainment.
