Five Choral Groups Perform Harmoniously

On Tuesday evening, the Auburn Public Schools Music Education Department presented their Fall Choral Concert to a packed house at Auburn High School. Auburn High Music Teacher Virginia Bailey accompanied all the groups with her fine piano skills. AMS music teacher Mrs. Julianna Duchesneau directed the three middle school groups while Fine Arts Department Chair Charles J. Pietrello directed the two high school ensembles.

The AMS Grade Six Chorus opened the evening with three numbers including “To Those Who Serve” by Jill Gallina, a very nice tribute to our soldiers and veterans. The AMS Select Choir followed with two well-performed songs, “Mo Li Hua” and “J’entends Le Moulin”. The Grade Seven/Eight Chorus concluded the middle school portion and impressively filled the stage, side to side and four tiers high. Their three songs included a nice version of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.

The AHS Chamber Choir presented three compositions in what is nearly a dry run. Students are given their music assignments that they learn on their own. There are no regular rehearsals, but it was hard to tell by this wonderful performance. The balcony was overwhelmed during the presentation as the middle school singers rushed in to hear the older students sing.

The evening ended with five songs by the AHS Chorus, a group even larger than the middle school chorus. Among the singers were a handful of field hockey players still in their white uniforms from their 5pm State Semi-final victory. They literally got off the bus from the ride home and joined their peers for the concert. Due to the difficult high school class scheduling, the Chorus practices in three different groups and combines briefly before the show. Another great performance.
