Friday was a busy day on the turf of Auburn High as boys soccer, field hockey and football played games. Girls soccer’s away game was postponed due to field conditions. Only football failed to deliver at home, while girls soccer fell to Nipmuc on Saturday.

Although football is out of championship potential, they will play again on Friday night against Uxbridge. MIAA has this listed as a home game. Boys Soccer will face Douglas away today at 2PM. Field hockey will play away tonight at Lunenberg when they face Quaboag.

Auburn girls soccer, ranked #12 (11-6-1), lost 2-0 to #5 Nipmuc regional (12-3-3). Sarah Fahey’s 15 saves weren’t enough to hold off the Warrior attack. Gabby Diodati and Samantha Maneri scored for Nipmuc which moves to the quarterfinal round. The young Rocket squad will learn from this experience, and next year’s team will be older, stronger, larger, and tougher. They have the potential to progress much farther in the future.

Richie Augusto is recognized for his solo efforts. Often his breakaways are interrupted, but this was not the case on Friday. 20 minutes into the first half, and after a nice pass from Kyle Peoples, Augusto progressed down the field and sank a shot to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead.

#12 Auburn (9-7-2) topped #5 Blackstone Valley Tech (11-4-3) with solid defense and ball control. Adam Gillies recorded the shutout. Auburn Mass Daily will report on the Auburn v Bartlett football game with a slide show this week.
