#1 ranked Auburn (18-0) soundly defeated #16 Maynard (4-12-2) 11-0 at home in the MIAA Central first round playoffs on Wednesday. Jamie McNamara (#5) had four goals and an assist while Lyndsey Gabrielian (#15) also had four goals. McNamara led the Rockets with 10 shots on net while Gabrielian followed with 7.
It took nearly 10 minutes for Auburn to score, and the Tiger defense initially looked very strong. The perseverance of the Rocket offense prevailed, and the first half would end with the home team up 5-0. All 5 goals by McNamara (3) and Gabrielian (2) were unassisted showing their ability to single-handedly penetrate the Tiger preserve.
In the second, Coach Bethann Cormier made good use of her bench allowing “next year’s players” to gain some experience. Gabrielian scored at 22:07 assisted by Jess Clifford followed by Jordan Lavallee with a McNamara assist at 17:30.
At 10:21 Sophia Laperle scored unassisted, and the Maynard defense looked tired. McNamara assisted by Jackie Matthews scored at 9:05, Gabrielian assisted by Lavallee scored at 7:30, and Tayla Foulkrod sealed it up at 2:45 with a Matthews assist. The Rockets had 14 corners on the afternoon to the Tigers’ 1. There were no shots on net for Maynard, and while Abby Lucas recorded another shutout, she had no saves.
Maynard’s goalie Jackie Whitney performed well under intense pressure and logged 13 saves. Auburn will face #9 Grafton (12-4-2) on Friday at 2:30 in Auburn. Grafton defeated #8 Tyngsboro 2-1 on Wednesday.
