Rockets Edged By Shrewsbury 3-2
By John Anderson

Shrewsbury scored first in both the first and second halves of Monday night’s match, and both times Jianna Baroni scored to tie up the game. At the 70 minute mark, the Colonials would find the net for the third time, but the Rockets couldn’t capitalize on several good opportunities. Baroni was assisted by Kayla Almstrom on the first goal and Sam Moreau on the second.

After the game, Coach Larry Midura said, “We beat ourselves today. Youth and inexperience continue to hold back the offense.” D1 Shrewsbury is not having the best of seasons and their record is 4-5-2, well behind Algonquin (9-2-2) in Midland League A. The Rockets still lead SWCL Central 7-2-1, and their overall record is 8-3-1. As playoffs approach, the girls still have some work to do.

Auburn outshot the Colonials 17 to 11, kicked 4 corners to their 1, and had 3 fouls compared to Shrewsbury’s 4. Sarah Fahey had 9 saves for the Rockets, while Shrewsbury had 15. The Rockets face Shepherd Hill at home on Friday at 3:30PM. Monday will be the last home game at 3:30PM against Uxbridge. Their last two games will be away next week.

Monday was also senior night for Girls Soccer. Four players, Lauren Bolduc, Elise Cavanaugh, Kayla Almstrom, and Julie Mulcahy, were recognized along with Manager Brenda Dluznieski. Auburn Mass Daily would like to give a special thanks to Brenda for keeping an excellent game book. Along with Micaela Almeida, she has provided detailed and accurate statistics, names, and game information. This is a big help to sports writers.
