Third Annual Rocket Race Draws All Ages

by | Sep 28, 2015

The third annual Rocket Race to benefit Auburn Youth and Family Services was held Sunday morning under a crisp, clear, blue autumn sky.  The first two years saw cool, drizzly weather, so the fair weather was the first indication that this would be a great day for a run.

The Rocket Race includes a kids’ 1K ‘Fun Run’, a 5K and a 10K.  The kids’ ‘Fun Run’ kicked off at 9:30am and included about 60 children, according to event organizer, Dorothy Kauffman.  There was also a fun obstacle course and a bounce house set up for the kids on the AHS football field.  However, the biggest hit was the free Coco’s Tropical Ice offered to each fun run participant.  Only in New England would you find 30 kids lined up for frozen treats at 10am in 50 degree weather.  Blue lips and tongues were everywhere afterward, and not from the temperature, they were a result of Coco’s ever-popular blue raspberry tropical ice!

All of the proceeds go to AYFS.  Today’s slideshow features the kids’ Fun Run.  AMD will bring you photos from the 5K and 10K, as well as race results, in Tuesday’s edition.
