The Relay for Life honors cancer survivors and remembers loved ones lost to the disease. The money raised is directed to cancer research through the American Cancer Society. Each year, hundreds of participants hold vigil at Lemansky over this 2 day event. In addition to securing pledges and sponsors, many participants sell items at the event to raise additional funds.

This year there are 32 teams and over 200 participants already registered with almost $40,000 pledged to date. In the 12 years South Central Country has run this event, nearly $1 million has been raised for cancer research.  In fact, as of today, the group is just about $45,000 away from reaching the $1 million milestone, a tremendous achievement.

All are welcome to attend the event, observe the opening ceremony, shop the booths, and participate in a huge drawing.  According to drawing organizer, Roberta Stencel, for a suggested ‘donation’  of $10 participants receive 25 chances to win.  There will be over 30 gift cards and certificates from popular restaurants, including Ronnie’s, Ellers, Ninety- Nine and O’Connors,  as well as for services, florists, and fun and family entertainment. There will also be at least 30 wonderful themed baskets, many donated by team members. The door prize- like last year – will he a very large display of Mass State Lottery tickets. All prizes will be awarded before noon on Saturday.

Anyone wishing to find more information about the event, or to donate, can visit the Relay For Life of Central South County website.  If you have never been to a Relay for Life, it is worth a visit to this inspirational event.
