Physicals Planned for Auburn Athletes

Athletic Director Brian Davis told Auburn Mass Daily that he wants to get a routine going for middle and high school athletes and their medical clearances to participate in sports. To that end, Dr. Nancy Detora and PA Eric Otterson from Child Health Associates will be at Auburn High School on Monday, August 24th to give physicals to any athlete in need. They will begin at 10:00am.

Nothing happens, however, without the paperwork including a parental consent. Those forms are available at the main, guidance and athletic offices at Auburn High School. Parents can also fill them out on Monday if need be.

This event is not just for fall athletes, and potential winter and spring players are asked to attend as well. Davis said while students routinely have physicals, it’s the timing that can be a problem. A physical is good for a year with an allowed one-month extension. The student who had an exam in January could not play in March if the 13 months was up.

His goal is to get athletes cleared in August so they are good for the entire school year, and students who do their annual physicals in about 12 months will not have a problem as long as the paperwork is complete. Questions should be directed to the Athletic Office at the high school.
