Auburn’s 5-0 win over Shepherd Hill on Friday was recorded as the 7th shutout for goalie Abby Lucas. With 0 saves on the day, its not simply the accomplished keeper doing her stuff. The Rocket defense has been overwhelming and kept the Rams from taking shots. Led by senior Captain Erin Collins, the defensive line must have looked like “The Dome” around the Auburn net to the guest team.

Jamie McNamara led the Rockets’ offense with 3 goals and 2 assists. While involved in every scoring play of this game, McNamara is truly a team player who takes advantage of openings to score but also passes the ball off to teammates with better position. Such was the case with 17:54 left in the first half when Jordan Lavallee made the first score of the afternoon. At 12:43, McNamara would score her first assisted by Jackie Matthews.

McNamara and Matthews would team up again at 26:34. A minute later, McNamara would score the hat trick assisted by Lyndsey Gabrielian. Finally at 21:10, McNamara took a hard shot from the right corner that Gabrielian would deflect into the net for her score. The speed of this ball awed the spectators, and the assist was a nice finish on the game for McNamara.

Giving credit where due, Shepherd Hill keeper Marissa Colby did a fantastic job in net with 10 recorded saves. She is shown in two of today’s photos for her toughness. She kept her composure even when swarmed and under fire by Rockets. Auburn Coach Bethann Cormier considers Colby an “excellent goalie”. Gabrielian led Auburn with 4 shots on net. Carly Zona had 3.

Coach Cormier considers the Rams to be well coached with a tight defense.

As for the Rockets, she was very pleased with midfielder captain Paige Laperle for “making things happen”. Forward captain Lyndsey Gabrielian did a great job feeding the ball as did senior Jackie Matthews on the right side. The Rockets are now 8-0 while the Rams fall to 2-4-1.

The Rockets have 2 home games this week: Monday at 3:30 against Nipmuc and Wednesday at 7:00 against Quaboag Regional.
