AUBURN, Mass. (July 22, 2015) – Physician Onsite, Inc., recently placed Dr. Lawrence Whiting at Life Care Center of Auburn, Massachusetts, as the skilled nursing and rehab center’s first on-site physician.

In his new role, Whiting enhances physician accessibility to patients and families. He aids in hospital transitions and pharmacy communications, and being on-site allows him to personally respond to medical changes or emergencies in a timely manner.

“I worked at Life Care Center of Auburn 18 years ago as medical director of the sub-acute unit,” said Whiting. “My wife, Laura Whiting, worked there as a nurse liaison, so I know the facility well and have thought highly of it for years. I was attracted to this position initially because being an on-site, dedicated physician will allow me to focus directly on the well-being of a defined group of patients and bring increased continuity in their care.”

Whiting comes to this position from Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts, where he served as an emergency room physician for 15 years. He was the hospital’s associate chairman of emergency medicine from 2009-2011. Before working for Lawrence Memorial Hospital, he served as an ER physician for Hale Hospital in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Whiting earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, in 1988. He completed his residency in internal medicine at The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts in Worcester in 1994.

He had a previous career in engineering as well.

Whiting is present full time at Life Care Center of Auburn but is also available to cover for physicians at other skilled nursing facilities run by Life Care Centers of America.

“In this rapidly changing health care environment, we are pleased to have such a competent and qualified practitioner joining the team,” said Steve Hall, executive director at Life Care Center of Auburn. “Having a full-time, in-house physician will further enhance our capabilities and quality of care.”

Whiting currently lives in Worcester, Massachusetts, with all of his five children living nearby. After his wife passed away in 2013, he has dedicated himself to supporting cancer research through the 192-mile Pan-Mass Challenge bicycle ride.
