ACP Production of ‘Little Mermaid’ Goes Swimmingly

by | Jul 21, 2015

The Auburn Community Players youth theater program performed “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” this past weekend to three sold out shows at Pakachoag Church.  The 38 cast members and 10 staff worked for two weeks learning music, memorizing lines, blocking scenes, rehearsing, making costumes, and building sets before finally delivering the three shows.

The youth theater program, now in its fourth year under Christine Taylor’s ACP group, serves children entering 4th through 8th grades for 2 weeks each summer.  Previous productions have included ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Willy Wonka’  This year’s participants hail from 9 communities, including Auburn, Worcester, Holden, Sutton, Paxton, Charlton, Shrewsbury, Southbridge, and Northbridge.

It is really an amazing feat, considering what the staff can accomplish with these kids in two short weeks. Said Director Christine Taylor on Saturday evening, “This is the best group of kids I have ever worked with.”  If you did not see the show in person, the slideshows we will run today and tomorrow should give a glimpse into the caliber of these performances.  Best of all, it was announced on Saturday that the group will perform an encore performance of ‘The Little Mermaid’ on the outdoor stage at the Riley-Pappas Pavilion at the Pappas Recreation Complex on Thursday, August 13 at 6pm.  Tickets should not be an issue this time around!
