With 40 seconds left in their soccer match against Leicester on Wednesday, Auburn’s Scott Williams headed the ball in to give the Rockets a 3-2 advantage. Connor Aubuchont had the assist. The Wolverines were unable to recover and lost their fourth game of the season. Auburn Coach Chris Bailey said, “Scott Williams is an athletic tough kid. He really got up on Connor’s feed to put a good head on the ball so we could get on the bus and quickly get back to Auburn with a win.”

Richie Augusto scored the Rockets’ first goal 25 seconds into the game. Alex Strafer had the assist. 12 minutes later, Strafer would score assisted by Adam Gillies. The Wolverines responded late in the first half with goals by Nick Bleau and Cullen Mars. The match the remained tied for nearly 40 minutes.

Bailey assessed, “Other than the first and last minute of the match we didn’t play a particularly good game. After the two quick early goals we stopped playing a clean possession game and some rather ugly soccer settled in, and we couldn’t shake the bad rhythm. I am pleased that the team stayed with it and never stopped playing an aggressive game, which ultimately lead to the final and winning goal.”

This was Williams’ second goal of the season scored on a header. Keeper Matt Blais had 6 saves on the day as Auburn earns a record of 5-1-1. Leicester is 2-4-2. Auburn plays Shepherd Hill at home today at 3:30.
