Auburn girls varsity soccer outshot and outscored Leicester on Wednesday under the lights at Memorial Field.  The victory earned keeper Sarah Fahey her third shutout of the season. She had 5 saves. The Rockets had 18 shots on net to the Wolverines’ 5.

Less than 5 minutes in, Jianna Baroni scored with the assistance of Kayla Almstrom. With 28:29 left in the first half, Kayla would score with the assist given to Sym Brothers. Brothers got another assist when Baroni scored at 19:38. The Rockets were up 4-0 at the half after Almstrom scored her second of the night assisted by Emily Sarkisian.

With 8:45 left in the second, Tori Richard scored with an assist by Sam Moreau. After the clocked stopped at 2 minutes left, Moreau would add her own unassisted goal. The Rockets played with confidence on Wednesday, and most players have settled into their roles nicely. They also demonstrated flexibility as players routinely moved from their positions to handle the play of the moment. The girls rotated well and rarely left a square yard of the field unprotected.

After the match, Coach Larry Midura said he was very pleased with the aggressiveness of his offense. “I’ve been telling the girls to shoot, shoot, shoot.” Earlier in the season, some players were hesitant to take a shot. Asked about Kayla Almstrom, Midura said, “She can shoot from the 18 or 20 yard line like most players can shoot from the six.”

The JV girls had their own win on the day beating Leicester 4-0. The girls face Shepherd Hill away today at 3:30.
