As local travel basketball came to a close on Sunday afternoon, the Boys Grade 6 team took second place in the C Division Championship. Auburn is a member of the South Central Massachusetts Youth Basketball League. Head Coach Tim Benison was assisted this season by Ron Anish and Jim McGill.

Team starters were Brendan Anish, Aiden Benison, Sean Lovely, Liam Silva and Jamies Sousa. Also on the team were Matt McGill, Zion Burdick, Ethan Madison-Hella, Deacon Buzzell and Brendan Slomski.

Auburn defeated Uxbridge in overtime on Saturday night to advance to the final round with a 12-1 record. Blackstone, however, proved to be too big for them to handle and they lost 47-45.

Blackstone had 3 tall players who dominated the boards and often stood under the basket after an offensive rebound to shoot repeatedly until the ball went in. Despite the disadvantage, Auburn worked real hard and overcame a ten-point, 27-17, half-time deficit. å
Auburn outshot Blackstone 28-20 in the second half and did have a lead for a short time.

This was a scrappy game to say the least. Both teams were physical, and Blackstone took advantage of their size. In the first half alone, there were over 30 fouls between the two teams.

Congratulations to these boys for a great season, and they will certainly be appreciated when they get to the high school level.
