Model Railroaders Steam Into Auburn

by | Feb 18, 2015

Remember setting up those electric trains when you were a kid?  Come relive those memories and entertain the youngsters at the same time.  The Worcester Model Railroaders Show and sale returns to the Auburn-Webster Elks Club on Sunday.

Some of the layouts that will be on display are remarkable for how closely they replicate scenery in miniature.  There will be over 25 vendors selling model railroad accessories in a variety of scales (sizes), as well as offering other collectibles.

In addition to the layouts on display, there will be a raffle for a 4′ x 8′ layout, complete with finished scenery, Peco turnouts, locomotive, and appropriate rolling stock (the trade word for “railroad cars”).

The Worcester Model Railroaders is one of the oldest model railroading clubs in the country.  They currently have about 35 active members.

The club will be holding an open house at their club headquarters, 137 Schofield Ave, Dudley, MA, on the day of the show.  The club’s 41’x 53’ layout will be open and operating using Digital Command Control, and is only 15 minutes from the Auburn show.  Your admission to the show at the Elks also gets you into the layout on Sunday between 10am and 3pm.  There is a $2 admission for visitors to the Dudley layout who do not have a show stamp from the Auburn event.

The club’s layout depicts the Worcester Central Lines.  Their display is a condensed version (obviously) of the lines running from about Putnam, CT to Worcester and then east to Boston.

The show will be open 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 22 at the Auburn-Webster Elks Club, 754 Southbridge Street, Auburn, MA. Admission is $5, children under 12 free. For more info, contact Ralph Kimball, 508-755-1873, or visit their website at
