Although the girls lost to Springfield’s Cathedral High School on Wednesday night, 5-3, the game was full of energy and grit. The Rockets were coming off two road wins against Oakmont and Bishop Fenwick, Auburn’s first two victories of this season, and they were totally in this game.

The Rockets added to their success on Saturday when they bested Leominster 5-1 in an away game.

At the halfway point of the regular season, Auburn is 3-8, but their game has been steadily improving. In their first seven losses, the Rockets scored 12 goals. In the last four games (3-1), they’ve racked up 17.

Auburn also had 33 goals against them in those first seven games and only 9 in the last four.

After the Cathedral game, Coach Pete LaPrad admitted, “We’ve struggled to score goals.” Still, the girls are taking lots of shots, and at least two shots deflected off the post against Cathedral.

LaPrad also said, “We’re really coming together as a team. Off of two wins, we have much better momentum.”

It should also be noted that Katie Mason is tied for second on the leader board with 19 points (12 goals and 7 assists). Rachel Crowley is third with 17 points (7 goals and 10 assists).

This looks like a trend, and it is very welcome this season. The girls are gaining confidence, and their game is excellent.

At 2:00pm today, the Rockets face Bishop Fenwick. Today’s slideshow is from the Cathedral game.
