On Tuesday, girls hockey faced Winthrop/Lynn English and suffered a 5-1 loss. This defeat comes on the heels of Monday’s 3-2 loss to Medway/Ashland. The Rockets are now 0-6 this season.

The girls are doing a lot of things right, but getting that winning goal seems elusive. Their passing is solid, they’re taking shots, and their attitude is solid. Still, there is much work to be done.

In Monday’s contest, Medway got a shot past Nicole LaCroix 11 minutes into the game and scored again less than 30 seconds into the second period. The Rockets got their chance 4 minutes later when Sydney Mayo scored with a Rachel Crowley assist.

At 8:50, Nicole Berthiaume battled in front of the Medway net and landed the puck to tie the game. Kelsie Lorden and Katie Mason both earned assists. Things looked positive going into the third period, and the Rockets were driving hard.

It all changed 5 minutes into the third when Medway took the lead with their third and final goal. Despite a lot of effort, Auburn could not score again. LaCroix stopped 18 shots for the Rockets while Kathryn Hamer had 24 saves. Hamer’s glove work was outstanding and a major contributing factor.

The girls play Shrewsbury at 4:00pm on Saturday.
