Tree Lighting Fun and Festive

The third annual Tree Lighting Ceremony went off without a hitch Friday night, and even the snow held off after spitting a bit before the event. Town employees served the guests hot cocoa, coffee, and some delicious goodies prepared by Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Many folks came early to secure a warm beverage on the chilly night, and parking around Fire Headquarters was packed. Thanks to the Auburn Fire and Police Departments, the DPW, and employees from the Library to Public Health, residents enjoyed a fun and safe time.

Fire Chaplain Doug Geeze gave the invocation, and Town Manager Julie Jacobson welcomed the crowd. Remarks by AHS Band Director Virginia Bailey, Congressman James McGovern, Representative Paul Frost, School Committee chair George Scobie, and Selectmen chair Doreen Goodrich followed along with music by the AHS Marching Band and chorus.

Then, the important stuff happened. Santa arrived in the bucket of Tower 1 and made his way through the crowd. He lead the audience in getting the tree lit and then listened to Christmas wishes from the children.

The tree lighting is a great community event, and it is possible because of a great group of town employees as well as Stearns Electric, Inc. which donated their workers to string and power up the lights. See you next year.
