AUBURN-Arline W. (Waite) Rayner, 97, of Charlton, formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday November 11, 2014 in the Overlook Masonic Health Center after a period of declining health.
Her husband of 55 years, Norman A. Rayner, died in 1996.

She is survived by her nieces; Marjorie Whittemore of Gardener, Alison VanBrocklin of Richmond, NH, Mary Abbott, of Amherst, nephews; Peter Waite of Casco, ME, and Daniel Waite of Westbrook, ME, and grandnieces, grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.

Arline was born in Worcester. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Chew) Waite. She is a graduate of Beverly High School, and Worcester State College, where she received her BS in Education.
Mrs. Rayner was a teacher of Mathematics in New Hampshire and New Jersey. She later worked as a designer of ophthalmic Lenses at American Optical in Southbridge for 20 years before returning to the classroom as an adult educator in Auburn, Worcester and Petersham.

She was active member of her faith community as a longtime member of Pakachoag UCC, in Auburn. She joined the church by transfer from Dane St. Church in Beverly in 1958. She served as a former president and director of the Worcester Area Mission Society. She was a former precinct representative as Auburn Town Meeting Member. She was a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America; a needlepoint stocking she stitched hung on the Christmas Tree in the Blue Room of the White House in 1996. She was an Overseer of Old Sturbridge Village, and a former member of the Green Mountain Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Club.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 15, 2014 at 9 AM in Hillside Cemetery. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 AM Saturday in Pakachoag Church, 203 Pakachoag St. in Auburn.
