Homecoming weekend began on Friday night with Auburn football facing Holy Name. This was expected to be a tough game, and with TJ Medlin injured on the sideline, a win was beyond the Rockets’ reach as they fell 32-19. Auburn only got one extra point on three touchdowns, a pass to Conor Scully in the second, and two runs by Mark Wright in the fourth.
The Rockets were close to tying the game in the fourth with ample time on the clock when Holy Name’s Kevin Mensah made a 39-yard run that sealed the game. The Naps provided their own version of a Rockets’ defense as they racked up multiple penalties late in the game.
Nonsensical scheduling put both field hockey and boys soccer on the turf at the same time. Northbridge scored quickly in the first half, but Auburn tied it up before the break. The Rockets added three goals in the second to win 4-1 and make their season record 12-1-2.
Boys soccer continued their downward slide by losing to Northbridge 2-1. Despite a solid defense, their offense just can’t find the net. A penalty kick by Richie Augusto gave the Rockets their only point in the contest.
Girls soccer concluded the day as they defeated Northbridge 3-2. Sixteen minutes in, Jianna Baroni scored with Jordyn Abasciano assisting. Three minutes later, Jenna Matthews found the net with Samantha Moreau on the assist. The Rams tied the game in the second, but Abasciano, assisted by Baroni, scored at the 15-minute mark to give the Rockets the win.
Auburn Mass Daily will be posting slide shows of these contests during the week.
