Rockets Turn Up the Defense

Leicester Falls 37-6

By John Anderson

The first half of Friday night’s home football game was all Auburn. Even with some great opportunities, the Wolverines couldn’t produce, and that was due to the solid Rocket defense. It could be a reaction to last week’s devastating loss to Northbridge, but Auburn looked very different. Neither runs nor passes would significantly benefit Leicester while the Rockets had the length of the field at their disposal.

Mark Wright ran for 3 touchdowns in the first half and rushed for 3 conversions. TJ Medlin also ran a 4-yard TD, and the Rockets were up 30-0 at the half. The 3rd quarter was unproductive for both squads, but Adam Weldon ran in a TD in the 4th followed by a Ryan Mulcahy field goal.

With 1:35 left in the game and a good part of the Auburn Bench on the gridiron, Leicester’s Ryan Stanick, their second QB of the night, finally got the Wolverines on the scoreboard with 6 points. The conversion rush failed, and the Rocket earned another win, 37-6.

When you view the slide show, you will observe two things, a lot of defensive plays and some players who don’t get a lot of time on the field to make a difference. That’s the type of game it was. Good luck against Gardner next week.
