At last week’s School Committee meeting, junior Connie Chung was recognized for her acceptance into the National Honor Ensemble of the National Association of Music Education. She was recommended to audition based on her scores in the District and All-State festivals in Massachusetts.

Students from all 50 states auditioned for spots in the concert band, orchestra, jazz band, and choir. She is one of seven students who will represent Massachusetts at the concert in the historic Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on October 29th. Connie plays the French Horn.

In a performance closer to home, the Auburn Rockets Band competed last Saturday in Putnam, CT at the US Bands Clipper Invitational. This was the first of three competitions for the newly formed marching band, and they received high marks and awards in the categories of Music, Visual, and Overall Effect.

The Rockets will soon compete in the MICCA Central District Festival and the MICCA Championships. The marching band has come a long way in one short year, and they’re definitely worth watching at halftime.
